This is probably the hardest post we've ever had to write.

We're going to be completely honest with you, because we believe the MegaPlanet community deserves to know where things stand — and because, frankly, we're at a point where pretending everything is fine doesn't help anyone.

MegaPlanet is not currently financially sustainable.

Unless something changes significantly, we will have to close the game.

This isn't something we're saying lightly, and it isn't a marketing tactic or an attempt to scare people into spending money. It's simply where the numbers have taken us.

Why are we here?
There are several factors.

Yes, development has been slower than we would have liked. We know that. We know there are features we've talked about that have taken longer than expected, and there are things we could have done better and faster. But development speed alone isn't what's brought us here.

The bigger problem is that MegaPlanet isn't generating enough legitimate revenue to support the resources required to keep developing and operating it. Running an online multiplayer game costs money. Servers, infrastructure, software, development, support, moderation, payment processing and all the other things that happen behind the scenes don't stop costing money just because the player numbers fluctuate. And there are two issues within the community that have made that situation considerably worse.

Real-world trading
MegaPlanet has an economy. We've always known that some players would try to trade, sell or exchange things outside of the systems we've provided. But the scale of real-world trading has become a serious problem. When players buy from other players rather than supporting the game through the systems we've built, money is changing hands — but none of that money is helping MegaPlanet survive or improve. We understand why people do it. We also understand that players will always look for ways to maximise the value of their time and assets. But from the perspective of a small game, the consequences are real.

Chargebacks and disputed purchases
We've also lost a significant amount of revenue through chargebacks and disputed purchases. Some disputes are completely legitimate, and we absolutely understand that mistakes happen and that people sometimes need to contact their payment provider. But we've also seen purchases disputed despite the player receiving and using what they purchased.

That money doesn't simply disappear from a spreadsheet. We can lose the original payment, incur additional fees, and in some circumstances lose access to payment services or have our ability to process payments affected. For a small game, repeated abuse of that system can have a disproportionately large impact. We're not saying this to shame anyone. We're saying it because these things have consequences, and we need the community to understand what those consequences are.

So what happens now?
The honest answer is that we don't know yet. We could simply make the decision to close MegaPlanet now.
Instead, we're giving the community one final opportunity to change the outcome.

This is our hail Mary.
If MegaPlanet is going to survive, we need to see a meaningful change in the game's financial position.
That means supporting MegaPlanet through legitimate purchases rather than real-world trading, not abusing payment disputes, and — perhaps most importantly — showing us that there is still a community here that wants this game to exist.

We also have to do our part.
If the game survives, we need to improve the pace and quality of development. We need to make MegaPlanet worth supporting. We need to listen better, prioritise better, and make better use of the resources we have. We're not asking you to blindly throw money at a game while we promise that everything will magically get better. We're saying that we need to see whether there is a viable future here — and we're giving you a chance to help determine that.

We know this is a risk
We're aware that announcing this could have the opposite effect. Some people will understandably think, "If the game might close, why would I spend money on it?" Some people may leave. And yes, we're aware that this announcement could even result in more chargebacks. That's a risk we're consciously taking. But we felt that continuing to quietly operate until we reached the point where we had no choice but to shut the doors would be worse.

You deserve to know.
What we need from you:
If you want MegaPlanet to continue, please help us make it sustainable.
· Support the game through legitimate purchases if you are able and want to.
· Don't buy or sell MegaPlanet assets through real-world trading.
· Don't use chargebacks as a way of reversing purchases you've legitimately made and received.
· Tell us what would make MegaPlanet worth supporting.
· Give us honest feedback about what you want to see improved.
· And most importantly, show us that there is a future for this game.

We aren't expecting miracles overnight. But we do need to see a meaningful change.
We'll be transparent with you about how things progress, and we'll use the coming period to evaluate whether that change is actually happening. If it isn't, then unfortunately we'll have to accept that MegaPlanet has reached the end of its road.

We genuinely don't want that.
We've put an enormous amount of time, money and energy into building MegaPlanet, and many of us have been around since the very beginning. There are people on this team who care deeply about this game and the community that has grown around it.

We'd much rather fight to keep MegaPlanet alive than write the post announcing its closure.

So this is the honest situation.
MegaPlanet is in trouble. We're giving it one last chance. If you want it to survive, now is the time to show us.
